Understand the care

What is equine chiropractic?

Equine chiropractic focuses on the motion of the spine and other joints. After a movement and hands-on assessment, restricted joints may be addressed with manual or instrument-assisted adjustments.

The goal is comfortable, efficient movement as part of your horse’s broader care plan. Chiropractic complements veterinary care and does not replace diagnosis or treatment.

Information

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an initial evaluation look like?
Every assessment begins with a history review and, when safe and appropriate, observation of the horse's posture and movement. The hands-on portion assesses joint motion through the spine, pelvis, and limbs. If the findings suggest injury, disease, marked pain, or another concern that needs diagnosis, veterinary evaluation comes first.
How often should my horse be adjusted?
There is no universal schedule. Follow-up depends on the individual horse, workload, assessment findings, response, and veterinary guidance. Dr. Leo discusses whether another visit is appropriate only after evaluating the horse.
Is chiropractic a replacement for veterinary medicine?
No. Chiropractic is a complementary therapy. We work closely with your veterinarian to ensure your horse's overall health and do not treat internal medicine issues or perform surgeries.
Do you treat animals other than horses?
Yes! Dr. Leo is also certified to provide chiropractic care for dogs. As a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, he treats humans as well. Contact us to learn more.
Is a vet referral required in Texas?
Texas regulates animal chiropractic as an alternate therapy within veterinary practice rules. Applicable veterinarian-client-patient relationship, examination, owner-acknowledgment, delegation, and supervision requirements must be followed. We confirm the current process and any needed documentation before care is provided.
