Education

What Is Equine Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care optimizes the proper function and motion of the spine and joints of the body. Dysfunctional areas — or areas of misalignment — are treated with manual or instrument-assisted adjustments to restore movement, reduce pain, and support the nervous system.

Just as in humans, the spine and spinal nerves in horses govern the function of nearly every system in the body. Keeping the spine in proper alignment is essential to your horse's overall health and performance.

Information

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an initial evaluation look like?
Every assessment begins with a gait analysis and history review. We perform a full spinal and limb palpation to identify areas of restriction (subluxations) before performing precise manual adjustments.
How often should my horse be adjusted?
Frequency depends on the intensity of work and the age of the horse. Performance athletes often benefit from maintenance every 4–8 weeks, while senior horses may need more frequent, gentle visits to maintain comfort.
Is chiropractic a replacement for veterinary medicine?
No. Chiropractic is a complementary therapy. We work closely with your veterinarian to ensure your horse's overall health and do not treat internal medicine issues or perform surgeries.
Do you treat animals other than horses?
Yes! Dr. Leo is also certified to provide chiropractic care for dogs. As a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic, he treats humans as well. Contact us to learn more.
Is a vet referral required in Texas?
Yes. In the state of Texas, a veterinary referral is required prior to providing animal chiropractic services. We are happy to guide you through this process and make it as easy as possible.
